Belfair

Belfair is located in Bluffton, South Carolina on a 1,100 acre plantation, graced with century-old oaks draped in Spanish moss. As you enter Belfair, The Avenue of The Oaks greets and welcome you home. An abundance of wildlife dances between the palmettos and native grasses. Residents enjoy breathtaking views of the golden salt marshes to the Colleton River. Nature lovers enjoy spying on the native wood storks of Hidden Lake—the largest conservancy of these rare birds in the Southeast. Residents enjoy the convenience of jumping into their golf carts and heading to the course for a round of golf or the clubhouse for dinner.

"Belfair is the ultimate in golf. It’s Shadow Creek quality. I’d stake my reputation on the fact that Belfair is as good as any golf course you will ever see or play." - Tom Fazio, course designer.

With a career that has spanned almost 40 years in golf course design, Fazio has assembled some of the most talented architects in the business to join his staff. Noted as the premier talent among contemporary designers by several national publications, he welcomed the challenge to design Belfair’s first opening West Course. After the completion and rave reviews, there was no question that Fazio had to design the second course, the East Course. Being up to the second challenge, Fazio decided to make the courses completely different.

Both the East and West Courses, named geographically in the tradition of many of the older eastern clubs (editor’s note: this is also presumably because one takes off to the east and the other to the west), offer a variety of landscapes and playing surfaces indicative to the Lowcountry to ensure a challenging day on the course. From native grasses, soaring pines and sandy soil, Belfair’s courses each have their own distinctive style. The courses begin and end at the clubhouse along the 1,100 acres of the Colleton River and marshland with ample space for 36 holes of golf. The feeling of rounding the river as you approach the 18th hole of each course, with the Clubhouse in the background, is one of true complacency. It will make you question why you would want to play golf anywhere else.
